Laura Kinsale's "The Prince of Midnight"

The Prince of Midnight - Laura Kinsale

It's hard for me to rate this book. On the one hand, the plot is so full of improbabilities and holes that I could never truly buy into the heroine's emotional trauma for her murdered family. The fact that she is presented as the only person seeking justice for what happened to them and what is happening in her home town is probably the biggest of these improbabilities. On the other hand, the hero and his animal companions are totally marvelous, and the interactions between them are the highlights of the book, as far as I'm concerned. The final section where the hero and heroine get together in London is completely unsatisfying, IMHO.
